Toothache

Toothache Treatment, Brunswick

Whether you’re experiencing mild or severe levels of pain, toothache can really interfere with your day-to-day life and affect your ability to work, sleep and socialise. Often starting suddenly, tooth pain can quickly spread to the jaw, ears and head.

When toothache lasts for more than a couple of days, we recommend visiting Brunswick East Dental Studio to have your mouth examined. We’ll book you in at the next available appointment and can provide emergency dentistry appointments if we think your case is more serious. In the meantime, look after yourself by getting enough rest, eating soft foods and using a cold compress on the side of your face. You may also want to gargle salt water or take pain reducing medication, and always read the instructions on the packet.

What causes a toothache?

There are several causes for toothache and until you visit your dentist, it may be difficult for you to understand why you’re in pain. Some common causes of oral discomfort include:

  • Bacteria gets into the tooth nerve, causing an infection or an abscess
  • Tooth decay or a cracked tooth
  • A loose or broken filling
  • Receding gums
  • Inflammation of the gums or mouth
  • Mouth ulcers
  • Non-oral illnesses such as a sinus infection
  • Growing wisdom teeth

The best course of action depends on this underlying course. Common toothache relief treatments include dental fillings, the removal of your wisdom teeth and other procedures.
