Meet Ms Jo Purssey

Oral Health Therapist

Jo graduated with a Bachelor of Applied Health Science, Oral Health (University of Queensland) in 2004 and was awarded the Deans list. Since that time she has worked in private general dental practice in Brisbane and central Queensland. In 2015 Jo completed a Graduate Certificate in dental therapy (advanced clinical practice), with first class honors, at the University of Melbourne.

Jo has been an active member of professional bodies, including Board member of the Dental Hygienists Association of Australia Ltd (DHAA); International Australian representative in 2016 at the IFDH House of Delegates and in 2016, the Social Responsibilities symposium; Board member of the Australian and NZ chapter of the Alliance for a Cavity Free Future (ACFF) and a founding member of the Oral Health Advisory Panel (OHAP).

Jo has held teaching roles with oral health and dentistry students at the University of Queensland and more recently Latrobe University rural health school in central Victoria.

Jo brings a wealth of professional and life skills and knowledge to her role as Oral Health Therapist at Brunswick East Dental Studio. Jo is compassionate, empathetic and caring, supporting oral health and the prevention of oral diseases for all members of the community across the life span, advocating strongly for minimal intervention dentistry and for the valid roles of all members of the extended dental team.

Jo has three children and in her free time loves being active, with a keen interest in hiking, trekking, skiing, fly fishing, camping and tap dancing. Jo completed the 800km Camino de Santiago solo trek in October 2016. Jo also loves all types of music, cooking, wining, dining and walking her dog, Noah.
